Biography

J. Lee Graham

J. Lee Graham, a native of Los Angeles, California, has been composing since he was 9 years old – nearly 50 years – and has written works in nearly every genre of classical music, including choral, chamber, and orchestral. Primarily an historicist, he specializes in composing in the style of the late Classical period, circa 1785-1810, but has composed in many historical styles, from the late Renaissance and Stile Antico to Ragtime, as well as some contemporary offerings. Among his other specialties is composing for unusual combinations of instruments; he delights in making things work in ensemble that theoretically "shouldn't."  He is also an accomplished tenor/lyric-baritone vocalist and violist, and an amateur historical keyboardist (he owns a clavichord, a harpsichord, and a fortepiano), though he retired from performing after a 37 year career in 2018 to focus his energies on composition. He currently resides in Austin, Texas. Contact: jlg@jleegraham.org
